LinkedIn Now Offers Video Cover

LinkedIn has just rolled out an exciting new feature: video covers for newsletters and articles. This update enables creators and brands to replace their static header images with short, attention-grabbing videos that auto-play in-feed and display as thumbnails in email notifications. Let’s dive into what that means for your content strategy—and why you should start experimenting with video headers now.

Have fun with video!

What’s New? 🎥

  • Dynamic headers Instead of a still photo, you can upload a 16:9 video to act as the header for both articles and newsletter editions. These videos loop silently in users’ feeds, making your content stand out as they scroll.

  • Email preview thumbnails The same video thumbnail also appears at the top of subscriber emails—making your newsletter visually compelling even before it’s opened.

  • Platform-wide rollout This feature is available globally for all LinkedIn members and company pages. It’s being phased in gradually through June and July.

Why It Matters

  • Higher engagement with video LinkedIn reports that video posts are shared 20x more than static content, viewership is up 36% year-over-year, and videos drive 1.4x more engagement. A video cover lets you harness that power at the very top of your content.

  • Algorithmic boost LinkedIn favors content that keeps users on the platform. Since video inherently drives longer dwell time, a video header could help increase your visibility and reach beyond your current network. L

How to Make It Work

  1. Mind the format Stick to horizontal (16:9) and keep your video under 30 seconds. Thumbnail quality really matters here.

  2. Reuse across platforms

  3. DIY-friendly No Hollywood production needed—tools like Canva, CapCut, or InVideo make creating slick intros easy.
